Rail

Passenger trains leave Newcastle, Darlington and Durham for London and Edinburgh every half hour during the day. The East Coast Main Line services are provided by GNER.

Virgin Rail also operates direct cross-country services from Newcastle, Durham and Darlington to Sheffield, Birmingham and Bristol. Northern has hourly trains from Newcastle to Carlisle, while First Transpennine runs frequent services to Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool.
